The Organifer Leaf Insects capsules provide an indirect and preventive effect in warding off the presence of natural aggressors, including, among others, aphids, fungus gnats, scale insects, root lice, mealybugs, woolly aphids, whiteflies, caterpillars (including the boxwood moth caterpillar), vine weevils, lily beetles, gall midges, spider mites, thrips, leek moths, black bean aphids, leaf fleas, and other parasitic insects.

The remedy is absorbed by the plant roots. Through this absorption, the plant essentially develops its own defence mechanism, thereby increasing plant resistance. Sucking and chewing leaf insects disappear because they don’t find the food palatable. Other beneficial insects will not be affected. In this manner, the nuisance and damage will naturally diminish.

Organifer Leaf Insects capsules consist of a highly concentrated composition of specific herbal extracts. The product is of natural plant origin and is non-toxic to humans and animals. Organifer Leaf Insects capsules have proven their effectiveness in organic farming and horticulture and are especially suitable for potted plants. The active ingredient corresponds to the Organifer Leaf Insects concentrate, but the capsulated form makes the product exceptionally easy to use. The capsules are successfully used for houseplants, potted plants on terraces and balconies, and also in ornamental gardens and vegetable gardens where spraying is not possible due to odour issues. Simply place the capsules near the plant roots. The remedy is entirely natural and plant-based. Edible crops can be safely consumed.

Application

Apply preventatively from the moment the plant begins to sprout, especially if there has been significant nuisance and damage in the past. Organifer Leaf Insects can also be applied when harmful insects and infestations are already visible. The remedy lasts for four weeks, after which follow-up treatment is necessary to repel any remaining insects.

Dosage for Leaf Insect Capsules

Dosage for potted plants:
Create a hole about 5 cm deep and insert the capsule. Fill the hole with water and close well with potting soil so that the herbal aroma doesn’t escape. Use 1 capsule per 5 litres of pot volume.

The effect lasts for about 4 weeks; repeating treatment helps prevent infestations and promotes healthy, strong plants.

Dosage for garden plants:

Make a hole about 10 cm deep and insert the capsule. Fill the hole with water and seal with soil. See the table below.

Treat from March onwards. Repeat after 4 weeks. If necessary, repeat more frequently to prevent an infestation.

As a spray:

Harmful Leaf Insects

The following insects are the most common and current culprits causing damage to plants.

Aphids

Aphids are small, greenish insects passively feeding on the plant’s phloem sap. They are primarily found on the younger parts of a plant. Aphids can transmit viruses and cause chlorosis, growth disturbances, dehydration, and necrosis. Damage can be exacerbated by aphids secreting a substance (honeydew) upon which sooty mould fungi develop. Aphids can also transmit the Closterovirus.

Whitefly

Whitefly is a type of bug-like insect that can transmit viruses. The larvae of the whitefly feed on the underside of leaves, secreting a sticky toxic saliva called honeydew. Sooty mould fungus develops in the honeydew, causing affected leaves to turn black. Whiteflies are prevalent in greenhouses, so infestations can occur year-round. The same goes for the Fungus Gnat. Due to high resistance to pesticides, alternative treatments are a great method.

Spider Mites

Spider mite infestations cause leaves to become severely damaged and necrotic, rendering them non-functional. As a result, the plant weakens and dies.

Fungus Gnat Larvae
The larvae of fungus gnats are 5 to 12 mm long, translucent white with a black head and are legless. They reside in damp potting soil until they pupate into adult fungus gnats. These gnats are attracted to damp environments, warm temperatures, and potting soil. When these three elements are present, fungus gnats are likely to appear. They can be found all year round in greenhouses and indoors.

Caterpillars

Damage from caterpillars can be identified by leaves with nibbled holes or curled edges. Damage from caterpillars traditionally appears in the late summer and autumn. However, in recent years, caterpillars have caused damage even at the start of the growing season.
