Versatile and Productive Variety
The Bintje seed potato, an iconic Dutch variety from 1905, is renowned for its versatility and high yield. With long oval tubers, smooth yellow skin, and light yellow flesh, this potato is widely used in the kitchen. Suitable for boiling, frying, mashing, and baking, Bintje is an ideal choice for both household and commercial use. Its excellent yield per square meter makes it popular among both professional growers and hobby gardeners.
High Yield and Uniformity
Bintje is known for its high and reliable yield, even under varying cultivation conditions. The tubers are uniform in shape and size, making them easy to sort and process. Despite minimal resistance to Phytophthora in the foliage, Bintje’s tubers remain moderately resistant and suitable for various growing conditions. This variety performs well on both sandy and clay soils.
Good Storage Properties
Bintje potatoes are firm and store well. For optimal preservation, it is recommended to store the potatoes in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated area. This prevents sprouting and quality loss, ensuring the potatoes remain suitable for various uses over time.

Instructions for Use
-
Soil preparation: Choose a sunny location with well-draining soil. Work the soil to a depth of 30 cm to create a loose structure that promotes root development.
- Pre-sprouting (optional): Start pre-sprouting the potatoes about four weeks before planting in a warm and bright environment. This process stimulates the formation of strong sprouts, accelerates growth, and shortens the time to harvest.
-
Planting: Timing: Plant the seed potatoes early in the spring after the frost period. Spacing: Plant the potatoes in straight rows with approximately 40 cm between plants and 60 cm between rows. Depth: Ensure the potatoes are planted about 10 cm deep with the sprouts facing upward.
-
Care: About six weeks after planting, gradually add more soil around the plants by hilling. This supports stem growth, improves soil warming, and ensures proper drainage. Use Organifer fertilizers and start applying Organifer plant boosters such as Phytophthora concentrate ten weeks after planting for optimal plant health.
-
Harvesting: Begin harvesting between 90 and 120 days after planting, depending on weather and growing conditions. Use a harvester or a garden fork to gently lift the potatoes without damaging the tubers. Allow the potatoes to dry briefly before storage.
Storage
Store in a cool, dry place with good ventilation. Ensure the storage area is dark to minimize sprouting.
