Horn Shavings 1–6 mm are a 100% natural, organic nitrogen fertilizer made from finely ground horn. With a high nitrogen content of 14%, this fertilizer offers a powerful yet controlled source of nutrition, gradually released over a period of 6 to 12 weeks. The nitrogen is fully organically bound and becomes available to the plant step by step through the action of soil microorganisms.

Application and Instructions for Use

Horn shavings can be evenly distributed over the area to be fertilized, either by hand or using a spreader. For optimal effectiveness, lightly work the product into the top layer of soil. In dry conditions, water the area after application to stimulate the natural decomposition process.

Suitable for planting, fertilization during the growing season, container cultivation, compost enhancement, and general soil enrichment. Thanks to its slow release, this fertilizer is especially suitable as a base fertilization or supplementary feeding within an organic cultivation plan. For lawns and sports fields, it is best applied in combination with light incorporation or aeration.

Recommended Dosage of Horn Shavings

• Ornamental gardens, fruit cultivation, and viticulture: 60–80 g/m²

• Vegetable cultivation: 80–200 g/m², depending on the crop and nitrogen demand

• New plantings, balcony and container plants: 5–10 g per litre of potting soil, mix well

• Compost improvement: approx. 50 g/m² per compost layer of 20–30 cm

• For 100 kg of nitrogen per hectare: approx. 715 kg of horn shavings per hectare

Application Period

Suitable for use from March to October on all soil types:

• March/April – promotes spring growth and nitrogen uptake

• June/July – supports flowering and fruit development

• September/October – for autumn feeding and soil improvement

Storage

Store horn shavings in a cool, dry place, preferably above 5 °C and protected from direct sunlight. After opening, reseal the packaging properly to prevent moisture absorption and loss of quality. When stored correctly, the product remains stable and effective for an extended period, without loss of structure or nutritional value. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
