Early Harvest and Classic Floury Texture
Gloria A 28/40 seed potatoes are a traditional variety known for early harvesting and a classic floury cooking quality. Gloria potatoes produce long-oval potato tubers with a smooth yellow skin and yellow flesh. After cooking, the texture is distinctly floury, making this variety suitable for mashed potatoes, purées, and dishes where a soft structure is preferred. Due to the floury nature, Gloria potato can fall apart slightly during cooking, especially compared to firmer varieties such as Bildtstar. This characteristic makes Gloria seed potatoes particularly appreciated by growers who value soft, fluffy potato dishes. Potato seeds for planting in the 28/40 size range support uniform emergence and balanced plant development.
Proven German Variety with Early Performance
Gloria seed potatoes originate from Germany and date back to 1975. Over the years, this variety has become a popular choice among growers who prefer early planting, especially in greenhouses. Gloria potatoes can be harvested approximately 100 days after planting, making them suitable for early-season production. These potatoes for planting perform well in both clay and sandy soils, offering flexibility in cultivation. As certified seed potatoes, Gloria potato tubers are selected to ensure reliable growth and consistent plant development, even under varying soil conditions.
Yield, Sensitivity, and Harvest Timing
Organifer Gloria seed potatoes produce good yields when harvested on time. However, this variety is quite susceptible to Phytophthora. For this reason, early harvesting is recommended to reduce disease pressure and maintain tuber quality. With proper timing and attentive cultivation, these gold potato seeds reward growers with attractive potato sets and a satisfying harvest. Gloria potato is especially suitable for growers who monitor crops closely and prefer early lifting of their potatoes.

Instructions for Use
- Soil preparation: Choose a sunny location with well-drained soil. Loosen the soil to approximately 30 cm to support healthy root and tuber development.
- Pre-sprouting (optional): Pre-sprouting can be started about three to four weeks before planting in a light, frost-free environment to encourage early shoot development.
- Planting: Plant after the risk of frost has passed. Maintain approximately 40 cm between plants and 60 cm between rows. Plant potato tubers about 10 cm deep with shoots facing upward.
- Care: Earth up plants gradually after about five to six weeks. Regular watering supports growth. Due to Phytophthora sensitivity, close crop monitoring and early harvesting are recommended.
- Harvesting: Harvest Gloria potatoes after approximately 100 days or once the foliage begins to decline. Lift potato sets carefully to avoid tuber damage.
Storage
Store seed potatoes in a cool, dry, and dark place with good ventilation before planting. After harvest, Gloria potatoes are best consumed relatively soon. Short-term storage is possible under cool, dry conditions, but prolonged storage is not recommended due to the variety’s characteristics.
